What type of treatment options do you offer?
I offer both psychotherapy and counseling for adolescents, adults and couples.
What is the difference between counseling and psychotherapy?
Counseling is a more short-term problem solving treatment. It is more focused on immediate concerns and navigating difficulties in making decisions that affect your current life.
Psychotherapy addresses the same concerns and goes even deeper. It helps you see your life in a greater context and why it is unfolding a particular way, usually a way you are finding troublesome.
Do I have to stay in treatment a long time to get better?
Not necessarily. Like I mentioned above you can use my services as you wish. Both counseling and psychotherapy is an option.
Counseling is more focused on problem solving, once you find a resolution to some thorny issues, that may be enough. Psychotherapy tends to go deeper into the dynamics of how you move through the world. We will explore how life events and relationships have contributed to your current circumstances and your level of satisfaction in life.
Often people can be scared to begin treatment because they don’t know how long it will last. Although it is wise to have reasonable expectations, you are in the driver’s seat and can decide what you want to get from it. We will continuously evaluate treatment to make sure you are having your needs and concerns addressed.
How can I pay for treatment?
There are two ways to pay: out of pocket or using your out of network insurance benefits.
If you are paying out of pocket, I have a sliding scale and we can discuss what you can afford within my scale. If you have out of network benefits I charge my full fee of $175 for a therapeutic hour of 45mins. I will give you a bill that you can then submit to your insurance for reimbursement. If you are concerned about how to use your out of network benefits and have a high deductible, l can help you figure out how to make the best use them.
What do you most commonly treat and what are your specialties?
I am trained to deal with a variety of symptoms such as: Depression, anxiety, trauma, sexuality and relationship difficulties.
My specialties include: family planning, post partum adjustment and parenting.
The post partum period has important and particular challenges that make it unlike any other time in life. There is often no preparing for it. This can be a time of great conflict, both thrilling and terrifying. In some ways your life starts over again, which can be highly disorienting. This new chapter of your life is often compounded by great expectations that you may have for it. These expectations can be both self created and gleaned from our culture and environment. You may find it difficult to speak truthfully about your experience. Therapy is a wonderful investment to make in your motherhood. It is a safe place explore these powerful and curious feelings.
What if your treatment would benefit from medication management?
Although for some people medication management can feel stigmatizing, your emotional wellbeing is the corner stone of your life and should receive your attention and support. Sometimes treatment can be greatly benefitted by the addition of psychiatric care. If it can enhance your treatment, we can discuss this option and I can direct you to psychiatrists whom I work with.
How long are sessions and what is your cancellation policy?
Individual sessions can be 45 mins or an hour. Couples sessions are an hour.
My cancellation policy is 24 hours.
